our lonely speck
“Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.”
- Carl Sagan
The Golden Record, a single copper disk containing the sights and sounds representing humanity and life on Earth, was launched by NASA in 1977 for some sentient extraterrestrial life out there.
Centuries later, the record has finally been found.
But when the being who discovered it ventures out to see the great natural sights of this planet so called “Earth,” they come to find that it now looks vastly different. What happened since then? And can the planet still be saved? With the knowledge of what is to come, you’ll go back in time and explore strategies from green infrastructure to carbon taxes to build a better future reality than the one you saw.
Our Lonely Speck is a short narrative-driven game about the impacts of environmental and climate injustice, what we stand to lose if we continue living unsustainably, and ways we can mitigate climate change now.
